Stand Tall and Show Your Support For Breast Cancer Research
SD Rehab Is Offering Postural Pilates To Raise Funds for Breast Cancer Research
(Chicago, IL - September 20, 2007) - SD REHAB, Inc., in conjunction with Shape magazines Pilates for Pink Program, is raising money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by donating proceeds from all its Postural Pilates classes scheduled in October.
All levels of participants are encouraged and welcome to attend for the cost of $15.00 per class. While exercising for a great cause, learn how to restore your own postural strength. Classes are scheduled for Tuesday evenings, from 6 - 7 p.m., October 2nd, 9th,16th, 23rd, at 1962 N. Bissell, 2nd floor, Chicago. Call to reserve a space.
"This class offers obvious benefits for all participants, but its especially significant for breast cancer survivors," according to Stephanie Davies, Occupational Therapist, Pilates Instructor and Owner of SD Rehab. "With one in seven women facing a diagnosis of breast cancer each year, more women are working to take back their lives and fully enjoy their bodies. This class teaches all participants how to 'literally' stand tall, but also resonates the symbolic struggles of women diagnosed with breast cancer."
Stephanie Davies gained valuable understanding about the unique needs of women who have undergone treatment for breast cancer while working at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Lymphedema Treatment Center and teaching their Stretching Connection classes. She has taught numerous other classes in the hospital and out in the community to educate and encourage women to move forward in their lives by moving past their physical limitations and fears.
Pursuing extensive additional training to fill in the gaps that exist in traditional health approaches, Stephanie incorporates other alternative and holistic movement theories into her methodology. These include, the Feldenkrais Method(R), Stott PilatesTM, GYROTONIC(R) and GYROKINESIS(R). Combining these approaches with her traditional medical training has allowed her to more effectively assist individuals in recovering from injury as well as achieving comfort in everyday life.
