What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling involves one time-use monofilament needles (very thin and without injections) to be inserted into areas of problem such as joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and/or near nerves for treatment.
All treatments will be individualized to your goals whether it be pain relief, faster recovery, rehabilitation, performance, and/or injury prevention.
Dry needling can be useful for musculotendinous pathologies related to strains, overuse, or tightness.
Pain related to arthritic changes
Chronic tendinitis that is slow to heal
Migraine or headaches contributing from the head and neck region.
Pain and joint restrictions at neck, shoulder, hip, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), etc.
Need for fast recovery in preparation for upcoming performance or strenuous activity.
What does it do?
Thin needles are used with different techniques to reduce tissue restrictions, increase blood flow, improve healing, and reduce pain after treatment. Some soreness is expected after the procedure but it will help get you back to using your body quickly.
After the soreness disappears, you can expect prolonged pain relief, decreased stiffness, unrestricted use of the treated area, and improved capacity to tolerate exertional work.
Are there any concerns?
Dry needling should only be performed by a certified practitioner for safety. Your collaborating therapist will take all measures to reduce any associated risks.
Historically, there are rare cases of adverse events reported from dry needling, primarily pneumothorax due to incorrect use of dry needling.
We are risk averse and will choose different interventions or take measures to guarantee safety with the procedure.
