Aerial Fitness
Aerial work and aerial yoga have recently become more widely recognized as fun and effective ways to stretch, strengthen, and challenge both the mind and body. As a society of sitters, most of us spend our day hunched over our computers, phones, tablets, and smart watches. A large number of people complain about back, neck, and shoulder pains, as well as general discomfort. Aerial work helps to provide a balance between strength and flexibility, which will in turn decrease the pain. Stretching-based inversion exercises relax the paraspinal muscles and decompress the spine, which can help to alleviate back pain.
While it is no secret that exercises involving resistance bands and weight lifting are great for building strength and muscle tone, aerial work further challenges core muscles and proprioceptors. Working against gravity also helps the body to focus intently on balance and stability in a way that conventional exercise does not.
